Your 'day to day'

Scientific and medical publishing is a vital part of the Philip Morris International (PMI) Life Sciences Strategy and one of the most critical elements in establishing PMI as a leader in science and innovation.

As a Scientific Editor joining PMI's Scientific Publications Team, you will be responsible for producing and editing high-quality scientific publications. You will also advise scientists on best practices in scientific writing, be accountable for developing and maintaining scientific publications repositories, and provide training to PMI scientists on internal platform use and best practices in editing/writing.

More specifically, you'll

• Apply scientific principles and biomedical knowledge to understand, organize, and describe complex data for scientific and medical audiences. Coordinate input from a multi-disciplinary team while meeting tight deadlines. Help write, edit, and proofread key documents.
• Perform scientific writing, editing, and review of abstracts, posters, presentations, manuscripts, and reports to ensure consistency in language, flow of narrative, and overall quality.
• Maintain familiarity with relevant research, conduct literature reviews, and manage references. Assist with the design, development, and selection of scientific illustrations, tables, and figures. Assist with cover letters and associated documents to journals.
• Advise authors on preparing and submitting publications and selecting relevant journals and conferences. Analyze journal feedback to inform future manuscript development.
• Contribute to the maintenance of structured and searchable third-party scientific publication repositories.

Who we're looking for

• PhD in a Life Sciences discipline (such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology preferred)
• Minimum 5 years experience in writing and editing scientific publications, and editorial or writing certification (e.g., Editor in the Life Sciences, American Medical Writers Association, or European Medical Writers Association).
• Broad scientific knowledge and demonstrated experience in editorial review and publication management. Familiarity with the scientific peer-review process.
• Ability to proactively plan and prioritize. Sound interpersonal, collaboration, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Action- and detail-oriented, flexible, fast learner, and entrepreneurial in nature.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and bibliographic reference management tools (e.g., EndNote). Experience working with medical content management platforms like PleaseReviewTM , Veeva VaultTM, or publication management software is an advantage.
• Excellence in spoken and written scientific English.
