We are looking for our client, medical device company based near Fribourg, a manufacturing automation engineer for a permanent contract.

The Manufacturing Engineer - Automation is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing automated production systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations. This role focuses on automation strategy, equipment integration, continuous improvement, and lifecycle management of automated assets across production lines.


Your responsibilities :

Manufacturing Optimization:

  • Identify opportunities to improve yield, throughput, and reliability of automated systems.
  • Analyse process data to drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and predictive maintenance strategies (post implementation).
  • Lead automation-related continuous improvement initiatives in line with Lean and Six Sigma principles.

Automation System Development & Support :

  • Collaborate with equipment vendors and system integrators to specify and deploy automation solutions that meet performance, safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain control system documentation (functional specifications, wiring diagrams, software code, and validation documentation).
  • Design, implement, and validate automated manufacturing processes and equipment.

Equipment Lifecycle Management :

  • Own the automation aspects of equipment lifecycle: design, qualification, change control, upgrades, and obsolescence management.
  • Ensure that all automation systems comply with applicable quality, safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GMP).

Cross-Functional Collaboration :

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, and IT to support production operations and troubleshoot automation issues.
  • Work closely with R&D and Process Development to transfer new automated processes into manufacturing.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to operators, technicians, and engineers on automation systems.

Data & Digital Integration :

  • Support the integration of automation systems with MES, ERP, and data analytics platforms.
  • Contribute to the company's digital manufacturing roadmap.

Your profile :

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 3-7 years of experience in manufacturing automation, preferably in biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, or high-volume precision manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of control systems, pneumatics, and electromechanical design.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting ability and strong analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and project management skills.
  • Passion for automation and continuous improvement.
  • Proactive problem-solver with strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Adaptable to new technologies and digital tools.
